The rules we work under

Asbestos work in this province is governed by the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code, in particular Part 4 covering chemical and biological hazards and harmful substances, and by the Alberta Asbestos Abatement Manual, which sets out the required control measures by material type and job class. Transport and disposal of the resulting waste fall under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act.

These are not optional guidelines. The obligation to identify asbestos before disturbing it, to control exposure during removal, and to dispose of the waste at a licensed facility rests on the contractor and the property owner jointly.

What that means on site

Assessment first. No removal is quoted before suspect material has been sampled and analysed by an accredited laboratory. You see the result before you commit to anything.

Containment sized to the job. The control measures required differ between a few square feet of non-friable tile and a friable ceiling across an occupied floor. We build the containment the material and the setting demand — sealed enclosures, negative air pressure, and decontamination units where the class of work requires them.

Certified people, correct equipment. Technicians are trained and certified for controlled removal, and work in the respiratory and protective equipment appropriate to the material.

Regulated disposal. Waste is double-bagged, labelled, transported and received at a facility licensed to accept asbestos. You get the manifests.

Clearance before release. Where the scope requires it, the area is air-tested before the containment comes down and the space is handed back.

What you receive

Every abatement closes with a documentation file containing the laboratory analysis, the disposal manifests, and the clearance results where applicable. Keep it: this is the evidence buyers, insurers and lenders ask for, and reconstructing it after the fact is not possible.

Emergency response

Post-disaster situations — fire, flood, or material exposed by structural damage — are mobilised outside business hours. After water damage, the window before mould takes hold is roughly 48 hours, which makes response time part of the safety question rather than a convenience.
